German side Schalke haven’t given up on signing Corinthians midfielder Renato Augusto, who was elected as the league’s best player for 2015.
According to the German newspaper BILD, they are willing to pay the player’s release clause of €8 million and take him back to Germany in the January transfer window. The Brazilian club have already rejected an initial proposal of €6m for the midfielder. Renato Augusto has played in German football between 2008 and 2012, at Bayer Leverkusen.
Renato Augusto has a contract with Corinthians until December 2016, and has previously expressed his desire to remain at the club. However, the midfielder also admitted the possibility of leaving the team in the event of a proposal that’s good for both him and Corinthians. Schalke coach André Breitenreiter said: “He is an interesting and excellent player. He would certainly increase the quality of our squad.”
