Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray showing interest in Leandro Damião, who has agreed terms with Internacional
While waiting for the legal issues to be cleared, Internacional have been hit with another obstacle in their pursuit of signing Brazilian striker Leandro Damião.
According to Turkish newspaper AMK, both Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray are interested in the 26-year-old. Damiã, who was loaned out to Cruzeiro, recently won the right in court to terminate his contract with Santos, and the fact that he is free in the market is why the Turks want to take him from Brazil. The player is a free-agent and the clubs only have to cover his salary and wouldn't have to shell out large sums, without impacting the financial fair play regulations. According to Globo Esporte, Damião has already reached a deal with Internacional over his wages and the contract would be for one year. However, an agreement will only be completed if the club has the assurance that they will not face a new "Oscar case." The incident, which occurred in 2011, prevented the now Chelsea midfielder Oscar from playing because of the judicial complications with São Paulo. During his first spell at Internacional, Damião was wanted by Premier League club Tottenham, and has made it clear that he still maintains the desire to play in Europe.
