Deciding a very important game with a header in the final minutes is nothing new for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho as he’s done the same for old club Corinthians and the national team.
In the FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals on Sunday against Mexican side América, Paulinho’s last minute header gave Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande a 2-1 victory, and led them to the semifinals of the tournament where they will face Barcelona. The most amazing thing is that history repeats itself even in his celebration; much excitement in the run after scoring, and eyes filled with tears of joy. Paulinho decided the 2012 Libertadores quarterfinal against Vasco with an accurate header three minutes from time. Guangzhou coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would have good memories of Paulinho’s 86th minute winner for Brazil over Uruguay in the 2013 Confederations Cup semifinals.
Paulinho left Tottenham and joined Guangzhou Evergrande in the summer transfer window, and won both the Chinese Super League and also the AFC Champions League.
