Palmeiras have already confirmed the signing of Vagner, Roger Carvalho and Rodrigo for the 2016 season, but president Paulo Nobre has denied rumours linking them with Santos midfielder Lucas Lima and Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato.
Paulo Nobre praised both Lucas Lima and Alexandre Pato, but insists that his club cannot afford them, although admitting his interest in the midfielder last year. He told Rádio Transamérica: “This is not true. I won’t comment on negotiations, but Lucas Lima is a great player. In 2014, we tried to sign him, but Santos were faster. He’s a hell of a player, but I believe that he’s a player that none of the Brazilian clubs can afford. If he’s gone, I believe it will be for the foreign market.”
The president of Palmeiras also denied any possibility of signing Pato, who has a contract with Corinthians until December 2016 and was loaned to São Paulo for the past two seasons. He added: “He’s a great player. I see Pato with a lot of respect and I’m sure not just Palmeiras wanted to sign him, but I also believe that he is a player that hardly any Brazilian club have the conditions to sign. “
