Brazilian attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino seeks to establish himself at Liverpool, but has done little to live up to his €40 million price tag.
After being the team’s major highlight in the 4-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium just over two weeks ago, Firmino has been very quiet in the games that followed. The Brazilian, who arrived from German side Hoffenheim last summer, was heavily criticized by Liverpool legend John Aldridge. He was quoted in The Telegraph: “Roberto Firmino is playing as if something is wrong, mentally and physically. He’s been absolutely redundant the last two games after such a great display at Manchester City. It can’t just be the fact his mate Coutinho is missing. Christian Benteke played badly, but it was Firmino who made him look worse. Everything Benteke needed from him was absent in a horrible display. He also pulled out of a challenge that was 55-45 in his favour. Liverpool fans won’t accept that. I’ve been going for 50 years and I know it’s unacceptable.”
