The Brasileirão fixture against Grêmio in Porto Alegre was the last time Gérson wore a Fluminense shirt, as he will not be part of the club’s remaining games this year.
On Wednesday, the father of the player, Marcos Antônio da Silva, met with club president Peter Siemsen and requested to release Gérson from action until the trip to Italy on December 26. The 18-year-old travels to Italy with his father to make himself available for his new club AS Roma who paid €17 million for his services. Against Grêmio last week, Gérson received his third yellow card, and was also sent off soon after coming on as a substitute. He was suspended for last weekend’s fixture with Avaí, and will also miss Saturday’s game against Internacional. On Wednesday, when the team returned to training after two days off, Gérson was not present on the field. His father said: “Gérson is exhausted. The pressure was very big on him. He will now rest until the trip on the 26th. I met with the president. It would be nice to have holidays. We are very grateful to Fluminense for everything the club has given us and they understood our request.”
