While discussing a contract extension, agents of midfielder Ralf and Corinthians reached an agreement for the payment of a debt which dates back to 2012.
In the 2012 season, when Corinthians won the Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup, Ralf was one of the key members of the squad, and had a €4 million offer from Fiorentina. The Brazilian club rejected the proposal, but agreed to acquire part of the rights belonging to the agents, 32.5% for €1.9m. It was determined that Corinthians would pay €245,000 in cash and other 12 installments of €140,000. However, Corinthians failed to make payments from the eighth installment, and without any response from the club, the agents went to court. In May 2015, Corinthians were ordered by the court to pay R$ 2.8m to agents Álisson Garcia Costa and André Costa Vieira for not fulfilling contractual clauses on the purchase and sale of Ralf’s economic rights.
Despite reaching an agreement with the agents over the payment of debt, Corinthians didn’t reveal the value of the deal, but they will make the payment in installments. The number of installments has not yet been agreed between the parties.
On the other hand, Corinthians and Ralf are still negotiating a contract extension. According to Globo Esporte, the agents asked a monthly salary of €100,000, signing bonus of over €1m and a three-year contract. The club offers a salary of approximately €75,000 but didn’t agree with the value of the bonus and only accepts a renewal for two seasons. Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade said: “There’s nothing resolved, we are still talking. I believe we will reach an agreement and Ralf will stay.”
