Corinthians won the Brasileirão on Thursday night after their 1-1 draw with Vasco da Gama at the São Januário, with three games to spare.
On the afternoon of Friday, Palmeiras coach Marcelo Oliveira gave a press conference at the Academia de Futebol, and was subject to questions about Tite’s successful campaign. National champion with Cruzeiro in 2013 and 2014, Marcelo Oliveira praised his friend Tite and said that their performance in the competition was exceptional. He said: “I am an admirer and friend of Tite. He did an exceptional job, unchallenged. The team has the best attack, the best defense, is consistent, and has a well-defined pattern. He is one of the outstanding pieces, and has to be congratulated. He is a coach who is a reference for everyone else.”
Asked if the momentum of rivals increases pressure on Palmeiras, Marcelo Oliveira said the players need to be prepared for the moments near the Copa do Brasil final. He added: “There is a rivalry. We are following the work. The pressure is here, at Cruzeiro, at Atlético, in all teams. Cruzeiro, when they were winning the second championship, with several games without losing, there was pressure to trounce opponents in every game at the Mineirão. Pressure exists, we must be prepared and try to do the best job possible, defending the colors of Palmeiras.”
