Corinthians are in the market for a new central defender for the upcoming season, and seeks information about Fluminense’s Gum.
As reported by UOL Esporte, Corinthians are interested in signing the 29-year-old, and director of football Eduardo Ferreira met the businessman Jorge Moraes on Thursday morning to talk about the player’s situation. The meeting took place in a hotel in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, around 10 hours before the club’s game against Vasco. According to people close to Gum, the chances of the player continuing at Fluminense next year are slim. The report states that Corinthians are not the only club talking about a transfer of Gum. He arrived at Fluminense in 2009, and is also a two-time Brasileirão champion with them. Gum renewed his contract earlier this year until 2018, but has been subject to booing from fans during games following his poor performances.
For the 2016 season, Corinthians would find it difficult to keep their first choice defensive duo of Gil and Felipe. Enquiries from Italy for Felipe was confirmed by the club, and there were recent reports that Atlético Madrid are planning a January move for Gil.
