Brazilian forward Neymar had managed to live up to his star status by scoring a goal and providing an assist in his first ever El Clásico in 2013.
In his next Clásico, Neymar was on the field for just 69 minutes, but won a penalty for his side in a 4-3 victory where Lionel Messi scored three times. Neymar then had a great chance to score the equaliser during the 2014 King’s Cup final, but could only hit the frame of the goal in the last minute, and saw Real Madrid lift the title. He opened the scoring at the Bernabéu last season, but Madrid responded strongly to score three goals and won the game 3-1. In the return fixture at Camp Nou, the Brazilian had a relatively quiet game and was taken off by the coach 39 minutes into the second half.
When he scored in his first ever Clásico in 2013, he achieved something legendary Barcelona forwards like Romário, Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho had failed to do. Neymar has started all the five games he’s played against Real Madrid, winning three times and losing two. Ahead of Saturday’s game, he told BeIN Sports España: “I always dreamed of playing in a derby between Barcelona and Real Madrid. In the first game, I could already score. All my family and friends were at the stadium, they were all excited.”
