Paris Saint Germain centre half Marquinhos has declared himself flattered, but satisfied with life in the French capital, amidst persistent rumours linking him with Chelsea and Barcelona.

The 21 year old is behind compatriots Thiago Silva and David Luiz in the pecking order at PSG. At international level, the Brazilian centre half actually stands more chance of usurping both players.

Thiago Silva has become persona non grata for Dunga, whilst David Luiz, dropped once already during Copa América, was sent off in Buenos Aires on Friday for a nasty lunge, leading to doubts over his place in the national side. Marquinhos is currently injured and not in the Brazil squad, but is ordinarily a fixture in the Seleção, albeit as a reserve.

This has led to speculation that he might leave to find his fortune elsewhere. Chelsea captain John Terry is moving into his mid 30s, whilst Barcelona have been on the lookout for a replacement for the retired Carles Puyol. Their most recent centre half acquisition, Thomas Vermaelen, has been plagued by injury since his arrival in Catalonia in 2014.

Marquinhos responded to these reports by insisting that he is flattered, but happy in Paris, “I am very proud of this interest. It’s good to know that other than other clubs are watching me, but I am happy at PSG where I am in a very special moment in my career,” insisted Marquinhos.
