With the transfer window approaching, Cruzeiro are analysing some names to strengthen their team in 2016, but was quick to rule out the return of one of their former stars.
Éverton Ribeiro was the star of the team that won the Brazilian Championship in 2013 and 2014, but the club’s superintendent if football, Sérgio Rodrigues, has ruled out the player’s return from Al-Ahli in 2016. The main obstacle is the high wages of Éverton at the Asian side who pays him around €4.5 million. ESPN Brasil reported on Wednesday that Internacional had contacted Al-Ahli to enquire about Éverton Ribeiro, but the response was negative. Besides Inter, Grêmio and Flamengo were also monitoring Éverton. Sérgio Rodrigues said: “Éverton has a wonderful history with Cruzeiro, of course it’s a dream of the fans, even for the team itself. But his return is a little difficult. The wages of Éverton is astronomical, and outside the reality of Brazilian football.”
He added: “If Internacional can do that, congratulations to them. But Cruzeiro, within reality and with great responsibility, are studying hard to strengthen the team. We won’t do madness.”
