The former World Player of the Year was on the pitch when Brazil comfortably defeated Argentina on 2009 September which sealed their place in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Just over six years later, the national team will face the Hermanos again, Kaká, now at Orlando City, will have a new opportunity to face the rivals. In 2009, he was one of the stars of the team led by Dunga, but now, he’s mainly a substitute option for the coach. However, the veteran says he wants to show that he’s in the squad not just to be among the reserves. He was quoted in Globo Esporte: “It’s not easy to play against Argentina. It is always a great game. We know how difficult it is, but a win is possible. We had this experience in that game in 2009. It was a nice game because we got a place at the 2010 World Cup, and I remember much of the party that we had after the match.”
He added: “Of course everyone wants to play, but it’s important everyone knows their responsibility. I’m not here to be on the bench. I’m here to fight for a place, but always fair and correct, respecting the coach’s position. I come off a good season without physical problems, and ready to fight for a spot.”
