Manchester United’s young Brazilian attacker Andreas Pereira has spoken about his adaptation to life in England with Manchester United, telling UOL Esporte, “I’m a fighter and maybe van Gaal likes that,” in an interview with the Brazilian outlet. Pereira, who came from PSV, admits that he has found it difficult to adapt to life in England, especially as his girlfriend still lives in Brazil, “The distance is bad, I’m jealous, of course. She’s coming here to spend time with me.”

Pereira also admits that the climate and the food in England has taken time to warm to, despite his spell in Holland, “It rains a lot, it’s cold. In the Netherlands it also is, but it’s different. The food is also complicated. But my mother is now living here, which helps a lot.”

However, Pereira also revealed that his grounding in Dutch football has helped him to bond with manager Louis van Gaal, “We speak Dutch to each other, to facilitate understanding. I think it helps. But I’m a fighter and he maybe he likes that profile. United are a massive club and to be part of it is an honour. The Premier League is very competitive, the English are very passionate about football. It’s a challenge here. Today I am more adapted to the style. But my background is in Dutch football.”

The young Brazilian is a part of his country’s U-23 Olympic squad, having chosen to represent Brazil over his birthplace, Belgium, “I never had doubts. I identify with the Brazilian fans. Though I never played in a Brazilian club, but it is my country. I want to one day compete in a World Cup for Brazil,” Pereira hopes that participating in the Olympic squad will help him to achieve that dream, “The secret is to work hard to win my place. Now you have patience, I’m young, I think things will happen naturally. You cannot be in a hurry. After the U-20 I got a little better known. But for me, the most important is to play.”
