Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has insisted it is never too late to improve in the wake of new boss Jurgen Klopp’s arrival.

The Brazilian is now working under his fifth boss at Liverpool since arriving iat Anfield in 2007, which makes him the longest-serving player in the current squad.

Amongst those five managers include the meticulous and measured Rafael Benitez and the club legend Kenny Dalglish – but this is a new challenge for the 28 year old who will have to adapt to Klopp’s now infamous ‘heavy-metal football’.

However, even with the player nearing 30, Lucas is confident he can continue to learn and improve under the new man in charge.

“I think I’m always learning,” He said. “Managers have their own views of the game, and a different approach, it’s never too late to learn and improve.”

Lucas took time to settle in at Anfield with many supporters questioning his role in the side during his early years, but the Brazilian has thus far stood the test of time at Anfield.

“Of course, you get towards the end of your career and it becomes harder but I don’t think I’m there yet.”

Klopp has been pictured giving a pep talk to the midfielder in recent games against Rubin Kazan and more recently at the end of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday.

The ex-Gremio player continued;

“I still have a lot to learn, a lot to improve, and that’s what I’m doing every day.”

Lucas looked to be on the verge of leaving Anfield under Brendan Rodgers, most notably on a season-long loan to Besiktas last summer.

However, he is fast-becoming the bedrock of this nascent Klopp side and could become a surprise central figure as the season continues.
