Doriva insists São Paulo's win over Coritiba brings them extra confidence ahead of Copa do Brasil semifinal second leg
São Paulo's 2-1 victory over Coritiba at the Estádio Couto Pereira on Sunday was instrumental in the team's pursuit of the top-4, according to coach Doriva.
Alan Kardec opened the scoring which was also the 10,000th goal in São Paulo history, and then Alexandre Pato found the net with an outstanding goal from outside the area. Paulo Henrique Ganso provided the pass for both goals and now has nine assists in the Brasileirão, just one behind leader Jádson. Doriva said: "We were looking for that first win. It was important because we had the intention to win and keep us alive in the fight for top-4. We managed. It's not easy to face a team that fights to get out of the relegation zone. I'm happy."
He added: "Victories bring confidence. We played a good first half against Santos and didn't win. We need to improve the finalization so that the goals can come. But this victory here will bring an extra confidence to reverse this situation."
