Corinthians should brace themselves for a Premier League squabble in January for their striker Alexander Pato. The 26 year old currently on loan to city rivals Sao Paulo has already come out and declared he was subject to a bid from Manchester United in the summer, but it has emerged North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in the Brazilians services.

However, it is the latter who may make a more forceful move in January with Mauricio Pochettino relying heavily on Harry Kane to continue his fine form from last campaign.

Pato who burst onto the European scene at 18 years old for AC Milan looked to be the next great Brazilian striker and would be a household name for years to come. However, like so many teens who ‘make it’ at such a young age, there comes a time of stagnation as their rapid early rise can become a hinderance. This combined with persistent injuries during his younger years put pay to a promising career in the Italian capital.

The striker, nicknamed ‘The Duck’ was shipped back to his homeland and signed with Corinthians in 2013 for a fee of €15 million, however after only one season he was of on loan to Sao Paulo.

The 26 year old has started to find the form that go every one raving about this fresh-faced 18 year old, eight years ago. His 2015 stats for his club look impressive making 34 appearances in all, he has 13 goals and laid on another seven goals for his team.

These performances have obviously bolstered the strikers confidence, who only last month insisted he was the ‘best Brazilian striker’ that coach Dunga could choose from at the moment.

Nonetheless the Brazil manager has elected to go for the 35 year old Ricardo Oliveira instead of Pato in his latest squad.

Despite Pochettino bringing in both Heung-Min Son and Lyon’s Clinton N’Jie this summer. However, these two players are still young and are more wide forwards than an out and out hitman.

As Tottenham sold striker Roberto Soldado to Villarreal in the summer, they have put even more emphasis on Kane to provide the clinical edge at the sharp-end of the attack. Reports suggest Pochettino may see the ex-Milan forward as the man who can take some of the pressure off Kane, and simultaneously announce himself back on the European stage and help fire Tottenham to a Champions League spot.
