If reports are true, it won’t be just an all Spanish dual for the services of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

It has emerged Premier League rivals Manchester City will rival both Barcelona and Real Madrid for the diminutive playmaker’s services.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini’s interest has grown with their own talisman David Silva touching 30 years old this season, with doubts about how long he can go on for. Conversely, it is widely regarded that Coutinho is now one of the most sought-after attackers in Europe as he has now become Liverpool’s ‘go to guy’ following Steven Gerrard’s departure.

The Brazilian only signed a new contract in February but that was before boss Brendan Rodgers was sacked by the club. Doubts about who the new manager will favour are rife and it might be a good time for Coutinho to leave for pastures new and guaranteed Champions League football.

However as well as facing the potential wrath of the fans for leaving to Manchester City, it might not be the best move footballing wise either for the 23 year old. His talent isn’t in doubt and could and would fit into any team in the world, with growth to get even better.

Nevertheless even if Silva was moved on in the near future, City still have the likes of Samir Nasri and the new signing Kevin De Bruyne to ably fill in. You would also hope City look to promote some of their youngsters from the academy into the first team soon – although that may be wishful thinking.

Nonetheless, if Coutinho does look for a move in the next six months then it might be Barcelona or Madrid rather than Manchester that he opts for.
