Brazil manager Dunga brushed off suggestions that Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli would be a better fit for the Seleção boss. Former player turned journalist Tostão told Le Tercera newspaper that he felt Argentine Sampaoli would have been his preferred choice for the top job in Brazil. In his press conference on Wednesday evening, Dunga was dismissive of such suggestions.

"I think we have to respect opinion, each has theirs. Sampaoli does an exceptional job with Chile, he has spent almost 10 years in the team.. [It’s actually been 3 years] Those players who are with Chile are 80% or 70% of them, together for over 14 years."

Dunga was asked later in the conference how he would allay the mistrust that has begun to cultivate around the national team from the Brazilian public, and he bristled, "Only with victory, only winning. [does the mistrust disappear].  Zagallo, who won everything, every time we took the team suffered suspicion.

"Parreira also won everything and the same thing happened, Feola also, just search. Tostão, now a journalist, in 1970 suffered from the same suspicion. And with that team! People often see the question on the negative side. It is normal in the national team have that mistrust. There is no other way, have to work and win. There"s no way to escape it, “he added.

Speaking about the World Cup qualifier with Chile, that takes place tonight, Dunga says his team will be positive and try to win the game, "It"s like a boxer; if you only defend for an hour he will hit you. You have got to have balance between attack and defence. To win, you have to have as much quality in defence as attack. To qualify, you have to score points, three more points than them [Chile] right off the bat, that makes a difference."
