The injury to Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho, who was removed from the squad, has increased the chances of Santos midfielder Lucas Lima to start for Brazil on Thursday.
Brazil are preparing for their upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Chile, in Santiago, and Venezuela, in Fortaleza. Upon arriving to the team hotel in Santiago, Lucas Lima lamented the injury to Coutinho, but he didn"t seem very confident when asked if he"ll be starting. He said: “I cannot say [if I will start], it"s complicated. Unfortunately, Coutinho had this injury. I will work in training to start."
He added: “In the recent friendlies, I tried to show my football in the best possible way, both in training and in the game, and now I will get my space. Regardless of whether a starter or not, I want to help Seleção in the best possible way. I"m very motivated, very happy, has always been a dream to play for the Brazil, especially in qualifiers."
