Barcelona forward Neymar dreams to be included in the final three candidates for the Ballon d’Or award, given to the best player in the world by FIFA.
Although the Brazilian captain admitted his wish to be in the top-3, he believes his club mate Lionel Messi deserves to win the award for all he’s done this year. Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is the main rival of the Argentine, but Neymar doesn’t think about being number one in the results and only hopes to be in the podium. There are three Brazilian players in the list of 59 players announced by FIFA for the Ballon d’Or: Neymar, Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho and Chelsea midfielder Willian. Brazilian born striker Diego Costa is also on the list. The list will be reduced to 23 players next, and then to just 3 finalists.
Following the knee injury to Messi that will keep him on the sidelines until the end of November, Neymar has the chance to gain prominence at Barcelona and convince those with voting rights. Neymar said: “This year, the Golden Ball goes to Messi. For everything he did in the year, Leo deserves it. Let’s see if I can get in the top three.”
