Brazil is the most represented nation for UEFA’s Champions League match day 2 team of the week. Brazilian players largely enjoyed successful outings in the second match of the group phase, with FC Porto’s Maicon, Paris St. Germain’s David Luiz and Hulk of Zenit St. Petersburg all named in UEFA’s all star XI.

Maicon played at right back for Porto as they defeated ex manager Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea 2-1 at Estádio do Dragão. Maicon played a key role in the Portuguese side’s victory, keeping Eden Hazard very quiet. David Luiz was on the scoresheet as his Paris Saint Germain side cruised to a 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine. Luiz scored the second goal for PSG during the first half. Luiz was partnered at the back by compatriots Thiago Silva and Maxwell, who played at left-back. Lucas Moura was a late substitute for PSG.

Zenit’s Hulk was not on the scoresheet, but built on his recent fine form with two assists as the Russian club defeated Gent of Belgium 2-1. This is Hulk’s second consecutive appearance in UEFA’s team of the week, he scored twice in Zenit’s impressive 3-2 win in Valencia on match day 1. Having scored in both of Brazil’s September friendlies against Costa Rica and the USA, Hulk is one of Europe’s most in form forwards.

Hulk has been selected for Brazil’s October qualifiers against Chile and Venezuela. The CAS is due to give their verdict on the CBF’s appeal to have the remaining two matches of Neymar’s suspension struck off on Friday. In the event that the appeal is unsuccessful, Hulk will hope that his recent form will be enough to earn him a place in Dunga’s starting line up in the absence of the Barcelona man. Though he faces competition from Santos striker Ricardo Oliveira.
