Tottenham Hotspur take on AS Monaco in the Europa League tonight. Despite having an array of talent themselves, including Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Harry Kane and the newest recruit to the England team Dele Alli, Spurs should be wary of their opponents Brazilian fullback Fabinho who has taken many plaudits over the last year.

The 21 year old who stands at 6’2 is an ex-Real Madrid player who joined Monaco in the midst of owner Dmitry Rybolovlev’s overhaul, which as seen players such as James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao both come and go. Two years on, in more modest times for the principality club – they are not quite at the pinnacle of world football that the owner hoped, with even the likes of star man Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco leaving the tax haven for Atletico Madrid last summer.

However with teenage forward now fast becoming a sensation at Manchester United it has left Monaco relying on loanee Stephan El Shaarawy and Argentine Guido Carillo to supply the firepower. Operating behind them will be the diminutive Bernardo Silva in front of the steadying influence of captain Jeremy Toulalan.

Nonetheless it is the Brazilian full back Fabinho who may have more of a hidden impact at the Stade Louis II. His growing ability to master the balance between attack and defence has helped the 21 year old make the right back spot his own. Although, in the first month of the season he was deployed in a defensive midfield role where he excelled in, playing against Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal in the Champions League last season.

It will be worth keeping tabs on the young gangly defender who if Monaco are to triumph will have a bigger impact than most would think.
