Gabigol to create history if he scores against Figueirense in Copa do Brasil
After a slow start to the year, team top-scorer last season, 19-year-old forward Gabriel Barbosa has turned out to be a key player for Santos both in the league and cup under Dorival Júnior.
Santos takes on Figueirense in the Copa do Brasil quarterfinal second leg on Thursday at the Pacaembu stadium with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg. Gabigol has already scored five goals for his club, making him the team's top-scorer and also the tournament's second highest goal-scorer behind Ituano's Ronaldo. Adding up the six goals he scored in 2014 and one in 2013, Gabigol has 12 goals to his name [level with Robinho], just one behind Neymar who has scored the most goals in Copa do Brasil in Santos' history. Gabigol was quoted in Lance!: "I do not seek individual awards, I want to be champion. If Ricardo Oliveira is the Brasileirão top-scorer and me in the Copa do Brasil, I will be very pleased."
