Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed midfielder Roberto Firmino has suffered a potential significant injury.

Speaking ahead of the weekend tie with Aston Villa, the tactician stated that the Brazilian could possibly have ‘cracked a bone in his back’ and, along with Dejan Lovren and Christian Benteke, is likely to be set for a spell on the sidelines.

“All three will not be available for the weekend,” he said, as reported by ESPN FC. “Christian will be out for a little bit of time. Firmino landed awkwardly and may have cracked a bone in his back. And Dejan Lovren will be out for a few weeks with a ligament injury.

“You always want a fully fit squad. It’s the nature of it. We’ve Jordan Henderson out as well. Important players are unavailable. But we’ll manage it. There’s no timeline on Christian or the others. We’ll see how they go.”

The timing of Firmino’s injury could not be worse. The Brazil international has had a slow start to life at Liverpool could have taken advantage of Benteke and Henderson being missing to get so much needed playing time.
