Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Norwich City last Sunday heralded a special moment for one of their longest-serving players.

The inclusion of Lucas Leiva in the holding midfield role meant the 28 year old racked up 200 games for the Merseyside club.
Lucas arrived at the club in 2007 and is now the 13th in the all-time appearance records at Liverpool. He was honoured with a shirt detailing this great milestone before the game as Lucas reminded everyone of the difficulties he had, to make a breakthrough in the midst of leaving an indelible mark in the clubs history.

“It’s a giant thrill to achieve this goal in a traditional big club in world football. From the day I set foot in Anfield for the first time, I felt at home and I promised myself I would do anything to mark my name in club history. Those eight years were not only victories and joys, but every defeat and difficulty were very worth it. I am extremely grateful to Liverpool and the fans for all the love and affection that they’ve provided me over the years. I will continue to honour that shirt and pursuing my goals with great determination.”

Liverpool return to action on Wednesday night as they face Carlisle United at home in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
