During his six years at Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was often cast as the scapegoat and in some cases rightly so as the Brazilian did make some high profile errors throughout his time on White Hart Lane.

The man who began his career in his native Brazil at Cruzeiro was always known for his outstanding reflex saves and he went on to make 129 appearances for PSV following his move in 2004.

Moreover, since joining Watford in May of last year, he hasn’t look backed and played a major role, featuring in 44 games last season and the Hertfordshire club gained promotion to the Premier League.

He has been a steady feature in the team especially this season as the Watford owners The Pozzo family re-vamped the playing staff this summer but Gomes remained as an unyielding and experienced influence.

The 34 even signed a three year deal with the club following his impressive performances last season keeping 15 clean sheets and only conceding just over a goal a game in his 44 outings.

This campaign though will be tough for Watford to stay in the league, not least with the whole-sale changes in the squad as they try to gel together. But you would think if Gomes can replicate his form from last year then it will give his side every chance of staying in the division.
