After wearing a Palmeiras shirt for two seasons and transferring to Grêmio this year, left-back Marcelo Oliveira is now a trusted option in coach Roger Machado’s XI.
Marcelo has been the captain the side, and has turned out to be a fan favorite in Porto Alegre. He recently expressed his belief that he’s currently going through one of the best, if not, the best period of his career. Saturday, Marcelo returns to the stadium where he helped Corinthians win the 2009 Copa do Brasil defeating Internacional. Palmeiras’ Allianz Parque will not host the game because of a music show. He was quoted in Globo Esporte: “Back to the Pacaembu will be special. It is a stadium where I played many times, both for Corinthians and Palmeiras. It has been our home for the last two years, and now, as a visitor returning for first time, I hope I can again be happy.”
He added: “I will be able to meet some friends, but once the ball starts to roll, each will run behind the other. It is a clash for the top positions, it will be very tight, but we have shown that our strength is also great away from home.”
