PSG captain Thiago Silva has expressed his optimism when asked about the club’s chances o winning the UEFA Champions League.
The Brazilian commented on Brazil national team coach Dunga’s decision to ignore him from the squad for this month’s friendly fixtures against Costa Rica and USA. In a long interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the defender also offered his opinion on Manchester United’s big money signing Anthony Martial. He said: “It’s a tough group. Real Madrid are always on top, Shakhtar are a tough team and Malmö can play the game of their lives against Ibrahimović. For me, this may be the right year for the Champions League, but there’s also Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern. And don’t forget Manchester City and Manchester United.”
He added: “I do not know if Anthony Martial was worth €80 million or less but he really reminds me of Thierry Henry by his technique, his physique, and reading of the game.”
On the national team, he said: “In Brazil, they always need a scapegoat. So it’s my fault that we lost 1-7 to Germany because I missed that game as I was suspended before that. And it’s also my fault that I didn’t try a shot on goal or a penalty against Chile. I don’t know why Dunga didn’t select me, but I accept it without problems. I remain optimistic and prefer to think that he already knows me and he just wants to assess other players.”
