Cruzeiro coach Mano Menezes admits that his first game in charge exceeded expectations
Perhaps, not even the most optimistic Cruzeiro supporter would've believed in a rout ahead of the club's fixture against Figueirense, considering their dreadful campaign this year.
It was Mano Menezes' first game in charge after being appointed as coach of the current Brasileirão champions, and even Mano admitted that the 5-1 victory over Figueirense exceeded expectations. He says that the pre-game conversation was essential in giving confidence to his team. The coach believes he has found the right system and appropriate game plan as per the qualities and characteristics of his players. Mano was quoted in Globo Esporte: "It was a début more than desired. I'm sure we will be on our way, entering the track; I felt this in the players before and after the game at Campinas [against Ponte Preta]."
Mano, despite the big win, insists that his team shouldn't get carried away with the victory. He added: "Only wins can give the confidence that the team had lost. We can play well, and we can do everything, but if we don't win, then there's no use."
"In terms of system and game model, one thing at a time. Choose the system that is suited to the players we have and that enables variation of the game."
