Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has spoken in the media first the first time regarding stories linking Neymar to Manchester United.

Bartomeu has tried to calm any fear amongst Barcelona fans by saying Neymar will be staying put. The 23 year old has suddenly been the subject of a pursuit by Manchester United who are on the hunt for a marquee signing.

“We do not want Neymar to go away”
“He is young and we hope he finishes his career in our club. We will discuss the extension of his contract a few months. It will stay with us, not for the next three seasons but for the next five or ten.

“We do not want Neymar to leave,” Bartomeu told reporters. “He is young and we hope he finishes his career at our club. We will discuss the extension of his contract in a few months. He will stay with us, not for the next three seasons but for the next five or ten.”

Until a statement from Neymar himself it seems unlikely that United’s pursuit will show any signs of stopping. Neymar will be happy as he will now either receive a bumper new deal from Barcelona or become the biggest player in English football.
