Jorge Valdivia is confident that he can help football grow in the United Arab Emirates and is eager for success with Al-Wahda FC, after completing his move from Palmeiras.

The Chile international – capped 68 times since debuting in 2004 – has been signed on a free transfer and finally arrived on Friday.

The deal had been agreed in July, but was delayed due to Valdivia’s involvement at the Copa América, which he helped Chile win on home soil, and Palmeiras’ desire to retain him until his contract expired.

Valdivia’s move to Al-Wahda brings him back to the United Arab Emirates for a second spell, following on from his time with Al-Ain between August 2008 and July 2010.

Speaking to the media, the 31 year-old outlined that he was keen to return to the U.A.E. and hopes to have a positive impact.

“I’m back in the UAE because people here have a lot of respect and love for me. So, I’m really happy to join a big club like Al-Wahda,” he said, as reported by website albawaba.

“I’m happy with my move to Al-Wahda. It is good and I’m sure I can add value to the team and to UAE football. The sport is growing in this part of the world and it’s a good time to be here.

“Doing well here is the top priority for me. I have come here to play my best football and shall try to give Al-Wahda what they are looking for.”

Valdivia joins former Arsenal midfielder Denílson as a part of Head Coach Javier Aguirre’s squad and could debut on Friday, when Al-Wahda face Fujairah SC.
