Barcelona have rejected an approach from Milan for midfielder Rafinha, according to reports.

The website of respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Serie A outfit enquired about the 22 year-old, but were told by Barça officials that a deal was not possible, due to the club’s current transfer ban.

Whether they would be more open to negotiating in January, when that embargo is lifted, is currently unclear, but Milan are now expected to turn to Sampdoria’s Roberto Soriano, after also being priced out of a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

Rafinha will hope to have more playing time at Barcelona this season, with the squad at Head Coach Luis Enrique’s disposal likely to shrink further with Pedro’s expected departure for Manchester United.

The São Paulo native was brought back to the club after a successful loan spell at Celta de Vigo – Enrique was their Coach then – in the 2013-14 campaign, but found playing time limited last season.

In all competitions, he featured 36 times, scoring twice, but was largely used as a substitute.

This term, he has been involved in two of Barcelona’s three official games to date and scored a crucial goal in their 5-4 win against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.
