Atlético Mineiro officials will lodge an official complaint with the CBF after a series of refereeing errors contributed to defeat against Chapecoense yesterday.
While title-rivals Corinthians, renowned for the favouritism shown to them by referees, once again benefited from a dodgy offside decision to gain three points against Avaí, Galo saw Leonardo Silva sent off for a challenge that merited no more than a yellow card, before having a penalty claim for handball turned down, while the hosts’ winner came after scorer Apodi had clearly controlled the ball with his arm.
After not being awarded a penalty for handball against Grêmio in their last fixture (whilst Corinthians scored the winner from the spot after a similar incident in their game with Sport Recife), the Galo staff feel justified in making an official complaint about the standard of officiating.
Eduardo Maluf, director of football, told O Tempo: “To err is human, to repeat the error means either a lack of intelligence, preparation or in fact bad intentions.
“Of course we will complain to the CBF. We are making the complaint publicly.”
