Agent Kia Joorabchian is heading to Italy for talks with Internazionale over Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva, according to reports.

Tuttosport, as cited by website Football Italia, claims that Joorabchian is likely to initiate negotiations with Inter, who are believed to be keen on securing a defensive midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.

Head Coach Roberto Mancini is said to be a keen admirer of Lucas and with a move for Galatasaray’s Felipe Melo now seemingly shelved, he is set to become their main target.

Tuttosport claims that Joorabchian will arrive in Italy at some point on Sunday, with talks set to commence swiftly, if they are in place to happen.

The report suggests that Inter would be looking to secure Lucas on an initial loan agreement, with an obligatory buyout clause put in for him to move permanently in 2016.

Whether Liverpool would be reticent to these terms is currently unclear, but Lucas’ position at the club has becoming increasingly open to speculation over recent weeks.

The 28 year-old, who was signed from Grêmio for a reported fee of €10 million in July 2007, has made over 250 appearances for the club and has a contract until June 2017, but may be allowed to move on.

He was not included in the match day squad for Liverpool’s opening Premier League match at Stoke City – a 1-0 win – and with the arrival of James Milner, it seems his playing time could be limited this term.
