Udinese are set to beat Serie A rivals Carpi to the signing of Roma midfielder Marquinho, according to reports.

ItaSportPress, as cited by website Football Italia, claims that the Brazilian has chosen to join Udinese, rather than making a switch to newly-promoted Carpi, who had initially been expected to secure him.

Whether the deal is set to be a loan switch or a permanent transfer is currently unclear, but Udinese and Roma are expected to release official statements imminently that outline their agreement.

Marquinho has been expected to move in the summer transfer window, with his time at Roma considered over.

The 29 year-old, who was signed permanently from Fluminense in July 2012 for a reported fee of €3.5 million, is contracted to the club until June 2016, but has spent time away on loan, after falling out of favour.

He was first sent to Hellas Verona in January 2014 and made 15 appearances, before returning to Roma in June of the same year.

He then moved on to Ittihad Jeddah the next month and scored ten goals in 29 matches during his year loan stay in Saudi Arabia.

His protracted switch to Udinese comes on the back of reports that he favoured a return to Brazil, should he leave Roma, but the opportunity to play more regularly in Italy has seemingly encouraged him to remain in Europe.
