Sampdoria are considering a move for Internacional defender Geferson, according to reports.

The website of respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Serie A outfit will assess the 21 year-old and could be interested in making a concrete approach.

The report suggests that new manager Walter Zenga is keen to bolster his defence with some younger recruits and following on from Sampdoria’s alleged pursuit of El-Jaish SC defender Lucas Mendes, it seems that Geferson is the next target.

The left full-back – full name Geferson Cerqueira Teles – only made his first-team debut in the Campeonato Gaúcho earlier this season, but has quickly risen to prominence in Brazil.

After helping Internacional win the Gaúcho, he has gone on to make six appearances in the Brasileirão and was a surprise inclusion in the Seleção squad that competed at the Copa América in Chile.

Geferson did not feature at the tournament and, as a result, is yet to make his international debut, but his reputation as one of Brazil’s most promising young defenders is now established.

His contract with Internacional runs until May 2018, but Sampdoria’s reported interest may tempt both he and his owners into negotiating a potentially lucrative switch to Serie A.
