Carpi are interested in securing a deal for Roma midfielder Marquinho, according to reports.

The website of respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Serie A newcomers have initiated talks and that progress could be made in the coming days.

Marquinho is not believed to be required by Roma and with his contract expiring in June 2016, he is expected to move on.

Previous reports suggested that he favoured a return to Brazil, should he depart, while UAE Arabian Gulf League outfit Al-Nasr SC have already reportedly tried to secure him. They agreed a fee with Roma, but the player was not keen on making the switch.

Marquinho spent last season on loan at Ittihad Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. With them, he managed ten goals and seven assists across 28 appearances in a largely successful stint.

The 29 year-old, who has also previously been loaned to Hellas Verona, was signed by Roma in July 2012 from Fluminense for a reported fee of €3.5 million, but has never truly established him.

Across his time in Rome, he’s made 56 appearances in all competitions, but hasn’t represented the club since the 2013/14 campaign.

A move to Carpi would help resurrect his career in Italy and with the minnows set to compete in Italy’s top division for the first time, it is likely Marquinho would be offered a prominent role.
