Bordeaux defender Mariano has completed a medical ahead of his protracted switch to Sevilla.

The 29 year-old’s arrival in Andalusia is now expected to be confirmed on Tuesday, with Sevilla reportedly set to part with around €3.5 million to secure him.

Mariano will sign a three year contract that will tie him to the club until June 2018 and he comes in as a replacement for Diogo Figueiras, who has been loaned to Italian outfit Genoa.

Mariano’s move to Sevilla brings to and end his three year stay with Bordeaux. He signed for them from Fluminense in January 2012 for a reported fee of €3 million and went on to make 143 appearances, scoring four goals.

He was also part of the side that won the 2012-13 Coupe de France, when Bordeaux beat Evian 3-2 at Stade de France.

Last season, the right-back featured 35 times in all competitions and scored two goals, as well as providing three assists.

Mariano was not believed to be Sevilla’s first choice to replace Figueiras. That was reportedly Juventus full-back Mauricio Isla. No deal for the Chilean was agreed however, and now Mariano has been brought in.
