Lazio midfielder Ederson is set to terminate his contract and complete a switch to Flamengo, according to reports.

Website Football Italia claims that the 29 year-old will mutually cancel his deal with the Biancocelesti, despite it running until June 2017.

He is then expected to agree a three year contract with Flamengo and the report suggests that deal could be announced as early as Monday.

Ederson has struggled to make an impression at Lazio since arriving from Lyon on a free transfer in July 2012.

The one time Brazil international – capped in 2010 – has featured just 50 times in all competitions during his three year stay in Italy and only managed five goals and four assists.

Last season, he made just five appearances, scoring once, and was afforded a minimal 72 minutes in Serie A, as Lazio secured an unexpected 3rd place finish.

That placing earned them a spot in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League and with the squad at Head Coach Stefano Pioli’s disposal being rebuilt to compete at that level, Ederson and others are likely to be moved on.

Should the attacking midfielder complete a switch to Flamengo, it will be the first time he has played in Brazil since 2005, when he was at Juventude.

The majority of Ederson’s career has been spent in France, where he starred for OGC Nice, before moving on to Lyon for a reported fee of €14.9 million in July 2008.
