Second-placed Fluminense meet Rio rivals Vasco da Gama at the Maracaña on Sunday, knowing a win could take them top of the league, depending on the result of Atlético Mineiro’s game against Corinthians. With just nine points from 13 games Vasco are struggling badly and in desperate need of a win to lift themselves towards safety.

And Flu fans will get a boost pre-game when new signing Ronaldinho is presented to those present, with fellow new recruit Osvaldo also in contention to start the game.

Meanwhile a row has been brewing between the two clubs over which end of the stadium should be granted to their respective torcidas. Vasco are angry with the agreement between Fluminense’s and the stadium owners that the Flu fans can always occupy the sector of the stadium which has traditionally been Vasco’s.
