Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool have secured the services of an “outstanding talent” with the £29 million deal for Roberto Firmino.
He will be hoping to fill the void created by Raheem Sterling’s move to Manchester City with Rodgers saying Liverpool aren’t pursuing more cover in that department. He said: “Signing Firmino isn’t so much a direct replacement for Raheem, it’s just about improving the squad. I don’t feel there’s a need to sign a direct replacement for Raheem. For me, the flexibility of the player was important. Firmino is an outstanding talent. He’s got a wonderful touch and appreciation of the game. The key when you watch him play is his determination and how hard he works.”
