Lucas Barrios is ready to succeed at Palmeiras, following his move from Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow.

The Paraguay international – capped 27 times since debuting in 2010 – completed his switch to Palmeiras for a reported fee of €2.90 million earlier this month.

Barrios joins the Verdão with them positioned 7th in the Brasileirão, after a run of five games that has seen them secure four wins and one draw.

The Argentina native will compete with the likes of Jonathan Cristaldo, Rafael Marques and Leandro Pereira for a starting berth and insists he can make an impact in front of an expectant audience.

“This is a new side that is getting better every day,” he told the Palmeiras’ official website, as reported by Reuters. “I have to come to add to the team. The truth is that all the fans expect us to do well in the league.”

Barrios arrives at Palmeiras on the back of a successful 12 months. After joining Montpellier on loan from Spartak in August 2014, he went on to score eleven goals in 33 appearances, before netting three times at the Copa América to help Paraguay finish fourth.

Earlier in his career, Barrios has also won major honours with Colo Colo, Borussia Dortmund and Guangzhou Evergrande.
