Agent Cassiano Pereira has suggested that Manchester United defender Rafael would be interested in a move to Serie A.

The 25 year-old is widely expected to move on in the summer transfer window, after reportedly being told he is no longer required at Old Trafford.

Rumours in the media have suggested that a switch to Fiorentina or Roma could be an option, with both teams looking to strengthen in the right-back area.

Speaking to TuttoMercato Web, Pereira confirmed that the two aforementioned Italian outfits are possibilities for Rafael, while he also conceded that his time with Manchester United is likely to be coming to an end.

“Roma would be more than a good option for him and we’d be more than happy to talk to the club,” he said, as reported by website Football Italia.

“Italy would be a great opportunity, especially considering he has a Portuguese passport. However, I must admit that I haven’t heard of any interest from Italian sides in Rafael.

“His contract with Manchester United expires in June 2016 and Louis van Gaal already said he’s not part of the plan, so the player wants to leave and we’re talking to more than one club.

“Fiorentina? That is certainly also another club we’d like. If they call, then we’ll happily talk to them. The player is very interested in playing in Italy.”

Rafael was signed by Manchester United from Fluminense for a reported fee of €3 million in January 2008 in a double deal involving his twin brother Fábio.

He has gone on to make 170 appearances for the club and won eight major honours, but last term featured just eleven times for the first-team, as he become increasingly marginalised following the arrival of Louis van Gaal as manager.
