In a bold statement of intent, Brazilian centre back Miranda has said the national team believe they can win the next World Cup in Russia.

Brazil have endured a nightmare twelve months. Last year they were beaten 7-1 by Germany in the World Cup semi finals and were also beaten by Paraguay in the Copa America quarter finals a few weeks ago.

Miranda was a key member of the Copa America squad but it hasn’t seemed to have affected his confidence.

“This is a very bad time for Brazilian football. As a player and also as a supporter, I think the best way to recover from all this is to regain the affection of our fans. The ideal solution to silence critics is to win the next World Cup and it is also our goal.”
