Fiorentina have been told to increase their offer for Grêmio midfielder Walace, according to reports.

Website TuttoMercatoWeb, as cited by Forza Italian Football, claims that La Viola’s opening offer, believed to be around €5 million, is not enough to tempt Grêmio into relinquishing one of their prized assets.

The report suggests that they are demanding nearer €8 million and are unwilling to negotiate too far away from that fee.

Fiorentina are in the market for new midfielders, due to a host of first team regulars moving on.

Italy international Alberto Aquilani, Andrea Lazzari, veteran Chilean David Pizarro and Jasmin Kurtić are expected to depart in the summer transfer window, leaving new Head Coach Paulo Sousa short on options.

The likes of Matías Vecino, Amidu Salifu and Marko Bakić will return to the club after spending spells away on loan, but Sousa is likely to desire more established players ahead of the new season.

Walace, seemingly, falls into that category, but Grêmio would be loathed to lose a player who is fast becoming a key part of Manager Roger Machado’s squad.

The 20 year-old only made his debut in the Brasileirão last season, but went on to play 19 times and has become a regular this term, featuring in all but one match in the league so far.

The holding midfielder was also part of the Brazil under-20 squad that finished fourth at the 2015 South American Youth Football Championship at the start of the year.

If Fiorentina cannot secure a deal for Walace, then reports suggest they will attempt a loan move for Real Madrid’s Lucas Silva.
