São Paulo have confirmed midfielder Souza is negotiating a transfer to Fenerbahçe.

The Brasileirão outfit took to their official Twitter account on Thursday to announce that talks are ongoing and that the player would miss the game away at Atlético Paranaense, which São Paulo lost 2-1.

“Souza will not play against Atlético-PR as he is negotiating an €8 million move Turkish side Fenerbahçe,” read the tweet, as reported by website GOAL.

Souza only joined São Paulo permanently in January from Grêmio on a free transfer. He had previously been on loan with them since February 2014.

This season, he has featured 23 times in all competitions, scoring twice, while his form last year earned him a call up to the Brazil national team. Since then, he has been capped three times, but missed out on the squad that went to the 2015 Copa América.

Prior to his spell with São Paulo, Souza played for Vasco da Gama and also had an unsuccessful stint with Porto.

Despite winning five major honours in Portugal, including the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League, he only featured 39 times across two years and was loaned and then sold on to Grêmio in January 2013 for a reported fee of €3.75 million.

If Souza does make the move to Fenerbahçe, he will be their latest significant capture of the summer, following on from fellow Brazilians Fernandão and Fabiano, plus Denmark international Simon Kjær.
