Atlético de Madrid defender Miranda has completed his switch to Internazionale.

The 30 year-old – full name João Miranda de Souza Filho – had long been expected to move to the San Siro based club and after undergoing his medical on Tuesday, Inter took to their official website to confirm his arrival.

“F.C. Internazionale is delighted to announce that the paperwork has been completed and delivered to the Lega Serie A offices for the transfer of João Miranda de Souza Filho from Club Atlético de Madrid.”

Miranda joins Inter on the back of a very successful stint with Atlético. After arriving from São Paulo on a free transfer in July 2011, he went on to make 117 appearances, scoring 13 goals.

He was also an instrumental part of a side that won five major honours, including the 2013-14 La Liga title and 2011-12 UEFA Europa League.

Miranda has just returned from representing Brazil at the Copa América. He featured in all four of the Seleção’s matches, as they crashed out at the quarter-final stage to Paraguay on penalties.

Miranda’s move to Inter will reportedly earn Atlético €12 million, but he will initially join on loan until June 2017, presumably to help spread out the payments. He is expected to be signed outright in July 2017.
