Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao are closing in on an agreement for Brazil international Robinho, according to reports.

Chinese media, as cited by the National, claims that the Seleção international – capped 99 times since debuting in 2003 – is set to become the latest Brazilian player to join Head Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s squad.

Ricardo Goulart, Alan, Elkeson and Renê Júnior were already present before Paulinho was signed from Tottenham Hotspur for a reported fee of €14 million on Monday and Robinho’s expected arrival will swell the contingent further.

The 31 year-old is an attractive proposition for Guangzhou, given that he is currently a free agent.

His contract with Milan expired on Wednesday and despite being on loan at Santos from August 2014 until June of this year, he has chosen not to agree permanent terms with the club where he started his career.

Robinho had scored two goals in four Brasileirão appearances for Santos this term and won the 2015 Campeonato Carioca, but their inability to match the financial offers he has received from elsewhere has led to him moving on.

Robinho has spent three spells with Santos across his career, while he has also played for Manchester City and had success with Real Madrid and Milan.

The veteran has just recently returned from representing Brazil at the 2015 Copa América, where they were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Paraguay on penalties.

During the tournament, Robinho featured two times, scoring once.
