Sampdoria are closing in on agreement for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernando, according to reports.
Website Football Italia, citing Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia, claims that the deal is nearing completion and could be announced imminently.
Sampdoria will reportedly pay around €8 million to secure Fernando, with the money to be paid across three years.
The 23 year-old will come in as a replacement for Spaniard Pedro Obiang, who will complete a move to West Ham United at the start of next month for a reported fee of €6 million.
If Fernando does make the switch to Italy, it will bring to an end his two year spell with Shakhtar.
He was initially signed by them from Grêmio for a reported fee of €11 million in July 2013 and has gone on to score three goals in 47 appearances.
The Brazil international – capped eight times since debuting in 2012 – has been part of a side that won the 2013-14 Ukrainian League and 2014 Ukrainian Super Cup.
With the Seleção, he has also lifted the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, while during his time with Grêmio, he won the 2010 Campeonato Gaúcho and secured honours with Brazil’s under-17 and under-20 sides.
